I Don't Want Child Pornography on the Internet
I’m the first girl to gasp at the sight of an amazing bag or pair of shoes and obsess over fashion, style and social life as much as anyone else. I shop, go out, go to parties. Anybody who knows me will tell you I’m about as girly as it gets. Yet, I am absolutely in love with the internet as a technology, the actual web itself that everything (Facebook, Saks.com, Twitter, etc.) sits on. I have an engineering level understanding of it and think it’s the absolute coolest thing, ever. Like millions of other people, I also work and play on it. In a sense, it’s like a giant virtual community. We’re all a part of it and we’re all connected to it. It’s amazing!
Which is why I absolutely do not, can not and will never stand for it being a place where people get to exploit and rape little kids. Oddly, that’s exactly what is happening. While we’re all talking up our personal brand on Twitter or sharing pictures from the weekend on Facebook or Myspace, there are adult men raping little girls as young as infants, which they are video taping and sharing with other people on the same web. It isn’t consensual involving two adults, but a crime against a defenseless child. Without enforcement, we’re allowing it to thrive, and worse, survive as a business. Just a look at statistics is alarming. It’s happening everywhere, and it can happen to anybody, including kids you know, or even your own children. It’s just creepy.
I don’t want this in our world or on our internet. I don’t think most people do, either. It’s going to take a lot more to put a stop to it than just me. Please support S.1738 The Combating Child Exploitation Act. You can do so by emailing your local senator here.
